So I just picked up one of those new Flip camcorders. It is completely awesome. 8 gigs of HD footage = 2 hours of recording time. I tried it out yesterday at a session at Skyland Studio, and I’m really impressed. It gets pretty good audio for something the size of my cell phone.
The session was for the new Miss Minnesota, but I forget her name right now. She’s doing a record to raise money for a MN charitable organization of her choice. I’m using the house DW kit at Skyland, which is always fun to play on. I also got a new ride a few weeks ago off Craigslist… a 21″ Paiste Dark Energy. This was the first studio run with that cymbal, and it is SO BOSS. Much thanks to my new friend Dan Noraker for that one.

Looking and sounding good, man.
What other pies were you playing? Hats and crashes sounded good too.

Is that a splash I see in your cymbal setup? I never figured you were a splash guy.

Ha… yes, Chris… that’s a splash. It’s the house kit at the studio, and I tried to not change too much of the set-up as I adjusted things to my liking. I didn’t take the splash off, and then I happened to hit a couple times, and the sound was so satisfying that I’ve decided to change my rig to only splashes.
Bill… thanks for the kind words. The hats are Sabian Legacy 14, and the crash by the hats is a K 20″ ride. The other crash is that Paiste Traditional 20″ medium ride.

Thanks, Steve. I think we were chatting about those last week. Have fun in the UK!

Oh, and yes, definitely go all splash. With all the 6, 8, 10, 12 inch splashes that exist, the possibilities are endless! Not to mention china splashes. You could be a pioneer.
LOL

Glad you like the cymbal! It sounds awesome in that setup. I’m listening to this clip trying to catch the feel of your groove…

I borrowed that exact Paiste Dark Energy Ride from Dan a while back and I loved it as well! The only thing is the bell was not for me…..
Very cool

Yeah Trav… me too. The bell is the thing that I don’t love, but the rest of it is so boss that I’m overall super pumped about the cymbal. I have some other rides that have great bells anyway.
