Attention everyone who likes quality gear…

I recently chatted with the crew at MONO, a company that makes super sick laptop and instrument cases.  The guys who run the place aim mainly at DJ equipment, but have now branched out to the general rock world.  The stuff is all designed really well, water-proof, and basically exactly what I want in a case.  I’m always annoyed with instrument cases that only house the instrument itself.  All of MONO’s case and pack models have tons of extra pockets and compartments that are specifically designed for traveling musicians.

I’m picking up the cymbal bag and the “Fly-By” backpack.

This is a great read. It’s an interview with ?uestlove featured in the latest installment of Pitchfork’s 5-10-15-20 series, where they interview artists about music they during their life according to 5-year intervals. I had a lot of fun reading this.

Tonight is the official launch of NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, as the torch passes from Leno to Conan and from Conan to Fallon.  I’m excited about this for a few reasons…

a) Jay Leno is not funny as a talk show host, and having Conan instead will be cool…
b) Max Weinberg will stay on with Conan, so we don’t lose that great band in the crossover…
and, the best part…
c) Hip-hop giants “The Roots” will be the new house band for Jimmy Fallon’s show.

The Roots totally rule.  I’m pumped to hear how they handle a house band gig, and the super-boss Questlove plays drums with them, so it’ll be cool to hear him playing the various styles and feels required in doing television music.  I just read a cool interview with Questlove about how the band has been preparing for the gig, and how it might affect their future as an autonomous band themselves (with regard to records and touring).

D’Angelo’s second record, Voodoo, is one of the best records that I own. It’s destined for Album of the Week at some point. Just not this time. This week I’m planning on featuring a Frank Sinatra record that I’ve been listening to lately… but I’ll probably write a post about that tomorrow or the next day because I’m pretty tired tonight.

So for now, back to D’Angelo. Feast your eyes and ears on this live performance from the Chris Rock show that I just found. It’s a single off of Voodoo, and features Questlove on drums and Pino Palladino on bass. Killing.
